Send WhatsApp templates
Who it is for: people who handle conversations
Templates are messages pre-approved by WhatsApp that you can send as the first message to a contact or when the 24-hour window is closed.
From the Inbox
➡️
Step:Open a conversation or use "Send template to number".
➡️
Step:Select the approved template.
➡️
Step:Fill in the variables (name, date, etc.). If the template has an image, video or document header, the file comes preloaded or you are asked to upload it.
➡️
Step:Select the WhatsApp number to send from.
➡️
Step:Tap Send.
Template types
- Quick reply: buttons the contact can tap.
- Call to action: buttons with links or phone numbers.
- Interactive list: dropdown menu with options.
- Media: message with image, video or document.
- Card: image, title, text and buttons.
- Text only: message without buttons.
Variables
Templates can include variables such as {{nombre}} or {{fecha}}. When sending, they are replaced with the contact's data or the values you enter.
Have an AI agent send them
AI agents can also send templates with the send_template tool (see Agent tools).
Common mistakes
- The template does not show up: only approved ones are listed.
- A variable is missing: fill in all the variables before sending.
